Make It Easy For Recruiters To Say Yes To You
Make It Easy For Recruiters To Say Yes To You Make It Easy For Recruiters To Say Yes To You Most recruiters and hiring managers are sourcing candidates on social media, particularly LinkedIn. Which is great news if you have a robust, optimized LinkedIn profile. As a recruiter I spent hours on LinkedIn sourcing candidates, often scrolling through 500+ possible matches. Some were easily eliminated due to a missing or inappropriate photo. My all-time favorite being the woman wearing a wedding gown, veil and all. Potential candidates fell into 2 categories:1) Yes, contact them immediately and 2) they might be a possibility. The one thing that consistently moved candidates from maybe to yes was if it was easy to contact them. The point is, donât make the mistake thinking if recruiters want to contact you they will track you down or use an InMail. Unless they think you are a perfect candidate, they may not. You can increase your odds by making it easy for them by including contact information on your LinkedIn profile. A few years ago, the most common place to put an email and phone number was LinkedInâs Advice for Contacting section. However, this section is no longer available on LinkedInâs newer user interface. Today, your best option is to put your email address in the Summary section. If youâre conducting a confidential job search, include an innocuous statement like âalways interested in connecting with like-minded people or clients and colleagues or making new connectionsâ along with your email address. Whatever you choose to write make sure it doesnât scream âIâm looking for a new jobâ in case your boss decides to read it. If youâre concerned about sharing your personal email address set up an email account specifically for your LinkedIn profile. Email addresses like carguy@ or talktome@ are not appropriate for your job search. Instead choose something simple like your name or a variation of your name. Avoid using @aol or @yahoo email addresses which can make you look like youâre stuck in the last century. Keep those old email addresses to use with family and friends but opt for something more current like an @gmail address for your job search. Remember: LinkedIn is like Google for people. Just as with a website, having a complete, optimized LinkedIn profile will help you come up higher in a recruiterâs search. Just donât play hard to get. Make it easy for them to contact you by including your contact information in your LinkedIn Summary.

Career Corner Interview Tips from ReFocus on Careers - Face-to-face Interviews Prepare for the Interview Part I - Hallie Crawford
Career Corner Interview Tips from ReFocus on Careers - Face-to-face Interviews Prepare for the Interview Part I I recently spoke to a great networking and career search group, Re:Focus on Careers, about creating a kick ass elevator speech. Here are some fab free interview tips from them in my next few Career Corner posts: Prepare for the Interview The best way to ace your next job interview is to prepare for it. This may sound obvious, but its not. Too many applicants walk into an interview without knowing as much as they should about the industry, the company and its problems. Remember: You are there to solve a problem. Otherwise, the company wouldnt be hiring. Follow these steps: 1. Know the company. Find out as much as you can about the position, the company and its needs, so you can show how your background meets those needs. Research the company on the Internet; if possible, get a copy of the companys annual report. Extra Tip from Career Coach Hallie: Do you know anyone at the company or in the industry? If so talk to them. Find out the latest trends, the buzz and whatâs going on there. What are the hot topics? If youâre going through a headhunter or recruiter, find this information out from them. Do as much research as possible. This is your chance to stand out. If youâre interested in having me speak at your next event about finding a career you love, go here: www.halliecrawford.com/appearances.html. Iâd be happy to discuss! Career SearchCareer Speaker

8 Women Share How and When They Started Investing, in Case You Need Some Inspiration
8 Women Share How and When They Started Investing, in Case You Need Some Inspiration I remember receiving a binder labeled Employee Benefits at my first grown-up job. I welches 22 at the time, and with a little guidance from a patient coworker in HR, I set up my very first retirement accounts a 401(k) and health savings account (HSA). It welches my first introduction to investing. Now, several years later, Im no longer in that job, and Ive since expanded my investing portfolio. Regardless, I can still distinctly recall the dread and confusion behind opening that benefits binder and seeing so many daunting financial terms.Investing is no small feat, and theres certainly more than one way of approaching it. Below are eight women who shared their own first experiences with investing.Name Whitney WandersWhen did you first departure?I welches very luckyI got started investing at a young agemainly due to my mom. My mom worked in investing and finance for many years, and thought it was extre mely important that I understand stocks, bonds, interest rates and the markets. How did you invest? My mom gave me $200 when I was 16 to open my first bank account. My very first stock purchase was on E-trade my senior year of high school, after I had earned enough money from nannying each summer. Oh, and I also had an account that had horrendous fees, but I moved the money away after a few years. The house I bought half on a whim, but it was a great investment. I sold it in 2018 for three times what we put into it over the seven years we owned it. I really enjoy real estate, but I think the stock market is much more predictable, so I do a split of both.Name Tamara OlsenWhen did you first start?I was 23.How did you invest?I got married young, and my partner and I were still both in school. 4 Signs its Time to Quit your Job
4 Signs its Time to Quit your Job These are tough economic times were living in and jobs are in short supply, so it can be especially difficult to find yourself in a position where you are unhappy to the point of thinking about quitting. If you quit, you might not be able to find another position quickly enough or the next place could be even worse. However, staying could present just as much of a dilemma given the circumstances. The following four signs are telltale indicators that it may be time to start looking into other prospects and think about ditching your current job once and for all1. Just the thought of going to work makes you feel ill. You most likely know the feeling, because it accompanies any situation thats become intolerable for one reason or another. You get sick to your stomach when its time for work. Maybe you even vomit or experience diarrhea and other physical symptoms on a r egular basis because of job stress. Many people get headaches or even migraines when they think about a job thats outlived its usefulness. No job should make you feel sick at the mere thought of being there so, if yours does, thats a sign that something needs to change.2. You find yourself constantly making jokes and firing off one-liners about quitting your job or firing your boss. Were not talking about once in a while eithermora like all the time. Sometimes humor can be a defense mechanism that hides a deeper, more serious level of dissatisfaction with a given situation. If you eventually find yourself not only joking more about quitting your job but complaining in earnest about it to just about anyone wholl listen, it might be time to fly the coop.3. Your hearts just not in it anymore. Maybe youre making a lot of careless errors at work thats just not like you to make. Maybe youre catching yourself spending more and more time daydreaming when you really ought to be working inste ad. Sometimes people even reach a place where their boss has officially noticed that they just dont seem to care anymore. Whatever the case may be, this is usually a sure indicator that maybe your job has outlived its usefulness and that youd be better off finding a position thats more stimulating.4. You keep getting passed over for raises, versetzungs, or better opportunities. Sometimes a given position can just begin to feel thankless in every sense of the word. You could well be working hard, doing everything thats expected of you plus going the extra mile, but still not really be recognized for all that you do. You never seem to be the guy up for promotion or being offered a raise for a job well done. Maybe there just isnt much opportunity for advancement at the company where you work. Whatever the case, it may be time to think about leaving if you just dont feel like theres a place for you to grow at your job.
